Collection of Anchors

The collection, started in 1971, presently contains 45 anchors displayed on the ramparts of the Nerija Fort.

Most of the anchors were “fished out” from the Baltic and the North Seas, and the Atlantic Ocean. The oldest exhibits present the anchors of the XVII–XVIII c. sailing ships. Also there are samples of the admiralty, Hall, clip-anchor, and other types of anchors.
The largest one is the anchor dating back to 1803 and weighing 2192 kilos which was brought from the Aegean Sea by the Lithuanian deep sea master Juozas Karvelis.
